Traveling? Pack Food in your Suitcase
After my post about exercising while traveling, you probably thought my next post would be about eating while traveling, right? Well, this is a precursor to that post – it’s about traveling with food – food that you bring with you in your luggage when traveling.
I do that now.
Going to BlogHer 11 in San Diego
More firsts – on Friday I’m going back to the BlogHer conference, this year in San Diego. I have been before as a volunteer in both 2008 (SF) and 2009 (Chicago), and in 2010 I was also scheduled to be a volunteer but I got a new job and had to reschedule. 🙂
This year marks the first year I’ll be going to BlogHer as a speaker and it’s also the first year I’ll be going since I started this healthy living blog, so I’ll be trying to connect up with food bloggers as well as healthy living bloggers!
Since there are a lot of healthy living conferences now, I’m sure fewer will be coming to BlogHer, but I saw Kath from Kath Eats Real Food will be there so hopefully I’ll be able to say hi, and there’s a Fit Bloggin’ meetup on Saturday at 4pm I’ll try to make that, too.
I’m also looking forward to connecting back up with Roni from Roni’s Weigh (and a ton of other sites) – I sat next to her at a food blogger dinner at BlogHer Chicago and didn’t know much about her site at the time but went home and have been following it ever since.
I’ve also signed up for the BlogHer 5k on Friday morning – will I see you there, too?
Exercising while Traveling and on Vacation
I’m currently in the middle of a 6-week trip, of which only 1 week is actually vacation. My job allows for a lot of traveling, but I’m working while traveling which takes some getting used to when I combine that with my desire for healthy habits.
I need to work out while traveling, in addition to eating well.
So, I’m currently traveling (and working on a post about exercising and eating right while traveling) but since I’m coming down from the high this morning of hitting a local gym as a visitor, I thought I’d share something that I’ve been thinking about for a long time.
I played lots of team sports growing up: soccer, softball, field hockey, volleyball, even a year of club lacrosse at Texas A&M for fun, and running was pretty important for several of those sports. Later, I started doing more running, solo, and even completed a half marathon.
New logo and look
I’m excited that I can share the logo I had been thinking of for Food Blogger on a Diet. it was done by the lovely Melissa Muldoon, who I highly recommend – she’s also done some other logos for me like the Nutella Day logo. She took the idea I explained to her and hit it out of the ballpark on the first set of comps.
I knew I wanted a scale with a woman balancing herself and food, because I think that is exactly the crux of this site – the journey of enjoying life’s pleasures (food and more) and making sure we enjoy our bodies at their healthiest.
I also switched Food Blogger on a Diet’s theme to the new default theme that is shipping with WordPress 3.2, Twenty Eleven. It’s releasing soon to everyone, but already running here on WordPress.com, and for a default theme it has a ton of ways to personalize it and take advantage of new WordPress core features. Click through to check out how it looks.
What do you think?
Also, if you’re on Facebook, there’s a Food Blogger on a Diet fan page. No plans to separate out a Twitter account, but you can follow me on Twitter @rosso if you like.
PS: If you’re not sure why I talk about WordPress so much, you should probably check out my bio or read about the company I work for, Automattic = WordPress.com & more. 🙂
