Workout Playlist: Power Song Edition

April 25, 2012

I’m gearing up for the Automattic Worldwide WP 5k this week and I thought I’d put together the playlists of all playlists to accompany me on my run (though lately I’ve been listening to podcasts as well on my runs).

If you’ve ever used Nike+, you’ll know that you can set one song as your “Power Song” which you can use at any point in your workout to get a boost when you really need it. I pushed the Power Song button probably a few too many times. 🙂 I haven’t been using my Nike+ recently since I changed shoes (but I have the sensor+pouch so I’ll give it a go soon).

So I thought I’d make a whole playlist of my past Power Songs – hopefully they’ll help you get that extra mileage. I made it a little longer this time so you can do the entire 5k at your own pace 🙂 Note: not all songs are SFW.

  1. Celebration – Madonna
  2. Who’s That Chick? (feat Rihanna) – David Guetta
  3. Mr. Saxobeat (Radio Edit) – Alexandra Stan
  4. Right There (Desi Hits! Culture Shock Remix) – Nicole Scherzinger
  5. When Love Takes Over (feat Kelly Rowland) – David Guetta
  6. Video Phone (Extended remix feat Lady Gaga) – Beyonce
  7. I Will Be Here (Feat. Sneaky Sound System) – Tiesto
  8. Pause (Zumba Mix) – Pitbull
  9. Gimme Gimme Gimme – Beenie Man
  10. DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love – Usher
  11. Hot – Inna
  12. Fire Burning – Sean Kingston
  13. Somebody To Love (Remix) – Usher feat. Justin Bieber
  14. Blessed Feat. Shermanology (Avicii Mix) – Tom Hang
  15. So Fine – Sean Paul
  16. Hotel Room Service – Pitbull
  17. Not Giving Up On Love (Radio Edit) – Armin van Buuren vs Sophie Ellis Bextor
  18. My Feelings For You (Radio Edit) – Avicii & Sebastien Drums
  19. Evacuate the Dancefloor (Radio Edit) – Cascada
  20. Not Myself Tonight – Christina Aguilera

This is such a great idea Sara! We’re doing a “Mixed Reality 5k” — mixed reality meaning that real people will be doing treadmill 5k’s or step in their studios… while their avatars simultaneously walk 5k in a virtual world. Your play list inspires me to think about having a DJ do the 5k with us and play music through the virtual walk, which would also be heard by each person in their own studio. We’re doing the 5k on Thursday at 6pm PDT or 03:00 CEST Friday… and unfortunately the DJ types I know are mostly in CEST, so IDK if we can get them, but anyway it’s a really fun idea and I’ll see who I can round up today.

So (obviously) you like Nike+ then? I actually do run in Nike shoes, I really like the cushion of the max-air shoes. But I’ve never tried the Nike+.

Thanks so much for organizing the event Sara, I’m excited to see all the different ways everyone documents their experiences! 🙂

I saw your post about this – that sounds really awesome! 🙂 Looking forward to hearing how things turn out.

I do like the Nike+ but I’ll be honest I’m going to give Garmin a try for outdoor runs. You should be able to pick up a sensor for the Nike+ for about $30 and syncing with the iPod is very cool 🙂

Maybe I should try Nike+ since I already have a bunch of their shoes with “holes” in them 😛 (and an iPod of course)

Beyond the gimickyness of it, I guess I try to avoid earbuds, a little bit because they never seem to fit me well, and a little bit from all that stuff you hear about how dangerous they are for your hearing. You know that story about the remote village where the 80-year-olds have the hearing acuity of 20-year-olds in the developed world…

Anyway, I do have a Garmin Forerunner 305 and it is a work of art! Well, not on your wrist, where it is a little dorky, but it tells you what you’re doing and then maps it for you when you get home. Fantastic! IDK what Garmin you’re thinking of, but they all seem pretty great! 🙂

I think I’m getting the 410 (haven’t received it yet) but I don’t run outside much (this may change!) so I like having the Nike+ for indoor/treadmill runs.

If you can run without music you’re already a step ahead – it’s safer & better for your pacing, etc., I’m trying to listen to more podcasts myself, so I don’t get burned out on particular songs and then slow down 🙂

Hi Sara, my husband and I are coming to Milano on December 21st and staying through January 5. Would love to meet with you! I met Michelle last time I was there. Maybe we can all have a get together while we’re visiting. I’m looking forward to tearing up the elevators of Milano with you and our salsa moves 🙂 You’ve inspired me to start running. I am so not a runner. I’m a tennis player so short and fast is more my speed but I’m going to slow it down and get some distance going. Once I’ve built up to a 5k I’d like to come and do the StraMilano with my husband and family. That’s quite the goal for me 🙂 Anyhow, I did a juice fast for 5 days and feel incredible so I’m on my way. Look forward to hearing from you!

      Wow, you’re coming! Exciting 🙂 I’m glad you’ve started running, that’s awesome.

Unfortunately I’m almost always gone from Milan during that time – this year could be different, and if it is, I’ll definitely let you know – keep me updated with your trip!
