My Fitness Gadget Wish list

March 2, 2012

We’re going to talk gear today – are you ready? A wish list, you’re probably saying? After Christmas? Yes!

I always start thinking about things I might need to pick up when I head back to the USA for a visit. It’s usually cheaper, there’s more selection, and especially in fitness it could take months or years for those products to be available internationally.

So here’s what’s on my fitness wish list – I probably won’t get to all of them on this trip, or even this year, but one can dream! If you have a favorite brand/alternative to anything on my list, please share in the comments!

Non-scale Victories, part 1: The longest, fastest run

February 19, 2012

Today I had a pretty awesome non-scale victory; I ran the longest I’ve run in a long time; at a faster pace than I’ve done in a long time, too.

For some reason I always thought I was a gal who ran a comfortable, 10-minute mile. That I would never be a fast runner, that I would never be that gal who won speed trials or passed other people out running (for some seriously fast inspiration, check out SkinnyRunner).

10 minutes/mile is mainly what I trained at for my half-marathon (though I never timed myself down to the second like people do with Garmins on long runs), and then I ended up with a 2:06 finish (a 9:36 minute/mile). I should have realized then that I was capable of doing faster.

I’ve been thinking about tempo runs and speed trials lately and wondering if it isn’t the time to push myself a bit. I haven’t been running that much (perhaps only a few miles a week) as my strength training classes are still my main focus, but I know I’m stronger and I have yearned to pick up the pace a bit.  Read more…

Food for Thought: Magazines, Foam Rollers, Tempo Runs

February 9, 2012

Here’s what I’ve been thinking about healthy living lately….

“Offline” reading in my completely digital world… I picked up two magazines for my “dead time” on flights (before we hit 10,000 feet & I can turn on my iPad, and prior to landing) last week and I enjoyed Runner’s World & Clean Eating. Read more…

How to Make Homemade Almond Butter

January 27, 2012

I spoke about my love of nut butters on this site, and it should be of no surprise to you that I yearned to make my own as my stock rapidly depleted.

Workout Playlist: “Muevete”, Latin Edition

January 24, 2012

I really love dancing. I always have. While I wish I could do it more for exercise (Zumba, anyone?) I usually spend my days dancing in my apartment or in the, um, elevator:
