Paula Deen & Diabetes leaves a bad taste in my pre-diabetes mouth
Paula Deen has diabetes. Why is it we’re so angry and disgusted at this news?
I think the crux of it is she’s been selling us her “down-home cooking” lifestyle for years. She’s been asking us to become fans of her, her taste, her choices, and ultimately approve and emulate her through viewership, buying cookbooks, and supporting her advertisers.
No one is blaming her for being diagnosed with diabetes. Read more…

With the new year, the gym is bouncing full of people, and online I”m seeing a lot more health-related activity as well. I wish all the new healthy living – weight loss bloggers & individuals a lot of willpower to keep up the fight and reinforcement to continue on your journey!
Last week I came back from my own vacation and I was doubly glad I wasn’t starting something new but continuing the trend. I was really excited to get back to the gym.
But I had a very sobering moment.
How I Food Journal
Let me preface this by saying, this won’t work for everyone. Results may vary, and so may satisfaction 🙂 Find out what works for you – but you have to start by trying everything!
One of the first things I did when I stopped making excuses was to start food journaling. Everyone talked about food journaling as super important, and I had made a few attempts before, including using a few iPhone apps and also Weight Watchers online (WW ‘offline’ is no longer in Italy, having left in 2006).
But those times didn’t work. Tracking what I eat, down the calorie and gram, isn’t fun. It’s not sustainable. At least for me.
December Workout Playlist
Have some songs to recommend? Leave them in the comments.
Here’s the playlist I’ve been rocking to recently – mainly high-energy/dance, sponsored by David Guetta (his new album is full of collaborations so it doesn’t feel like a single artist’s album), hard R&B, and a little Latin music thrown in:

- Good Feeling – Flo Rida –Â a rockin’ song that samples Etta James? yes!
- Titanium – David Guetta feat. Sia  – one of my favorite singers
- Hangover (Extended Mix) – Taio Cruz feat. Flo Rida – dance anthem – lots of beats to keep my feet moving. PS: Drink responsibly. 🙂
- Turn Me On – David Guetta feat. Nicki Minaj – I seem to only like her when she’s not the main artist on the song 🙂
- I Just Wanna F – David Guetta feat Timbaland & Dev) – lyrics not so SFW 🙂
- Pressure (Alesso Radio Edit) – Nadia Ali, Starkillers & Alex Kenji
- Night of Your Life – David Guetta feat. Jennifer Hudson
- I Like How it Feels – Enrique Iglesias feat. Pitbull – not their best but hard to resist
- Make Me Proud – Drake feat. Nicki Minaj – a little slower but good
- Pegate – Fulanito – I challenge you not to move to this song

Women & Muscles: Apples & Oranges, or Birds of a Feather?
In the past several months I’ve had a few conversations, with men, about women and muscles. Mainly, that women really don’t need / shouldn’t have muscles.
That’s definitely a loaded statement, both in the starkness of the statement plus the lack of context for either of our backgrounds. I have no idea what led them to feel this way and they’ve no idea why I would find it offensive.
